DAY 2 SMALL AREA / COMPETE

Small Area / Compete - Depending on amount of ice time remaining/what evaluators want to see,  small area and compete drills will consist of a combination of the following (these are examples of the drills that may be run, again depending on time/evaluators preference, some or all the drills will be run):

To start players will be given 5 minutes to skate around and warmup at the start of their session. In order to keep everything on track it is important that players show up on time to prepare for their session and are dressed, ready to go when their ice time starts.

For the first 5 minutes players and goalies will have pucks on the ice and allowed to skate around, stretch, handle pucks, and goalies can get in net for some warmup shots. Players are encouraged to use this time efficiently to get themselves ready for the drills. After the 5 minutes is up, coaches will bring the players in to address them and then begin the placement drills.

2V2 Straight Up (10-15 Minutes)

  • Players will be divided into 2 teams by jersey color.
  • 2 players from each color will enter the zone, coach will flip a puck in to begin the drill.
  • It is 2V2 for about 30-40 second shifts, players working in pairs to try and score on the opposing net.
  • If someone scores or the puck exits the blueline, coach will flip a new puck back into play.
  • Players that are not playing 3v3 in the zone are lined up across the blueline and are not involved in the play. They should be resting getting ready for their next shift, helping keep pucks in, and will not be poke checking pucks away or disrupting the play going on with the 3v3.
  • On the whistle the group that is playing 2v2 will exit the zone, leave the puck for the next group, the next 2 in each line will enter the zone and resume play.

  • On any change of possession (turnover, steal puck from other team, get rebound off opponents shot, etc.) players will need to make a pass to someone in their line to then go on offense.
  • Players in line are expected to be ready to receive a pass from their team and help keep pucks in the zone, NOT play defense or poke check pucks away from players in the drill.
  • If someone scores or the puck exits the blueline, coach will flip a new puck back into play.
  • On the whistle the group that is playing 2v2 will exit the zone, leave the puck for the next group, the next 2 in each line will enter the zone and resume play.

DAY 3 SCRIMMAGE

This will consist of a 4V4 and/or 5V5 full ice scrimmage, IF evaluators wish to see more small area/competition then some of the time during this session will be dedicated to that.

During the sign in process on Day 1 parents/players will be asked to designate their preferred position. You will be able to select forward, defense, or both, depending on what your child wants to play for the upcoming season. This will allow us to ensure that players are playing the position that they desire to play and are most comfortable with during the scrimmage. Players that select both will be asked to rotate through both forward and defense throughout the scrimmage.

DAY 4 SCRIMMAGE

This will consist of a 4V4 and/or 5V5 full ice scrimmage.
